Battle of Bull Run; The Union Infantry attacks the Confederates.
The Union Infantry attacks the Skirmish line of the Confederates in the first major land battle of the War Between the States. Smoke from all the guns make visability difficult. The Battle of Bull Run was made up of about 35,000 Federal men from Washington, DC under Brigadier general Irvin McDowell. General Robert Patterson had another 18,000 Union soldiers N.W. Of Washington. Opposing Patterson with the Army of the Shenandoah Valley was General Joseph E. Johnston with 12,000 Confederate troops, and the largest contingent of Confederates were 20,000 more men under General P.G.T. Beauregard in Virginia.
This commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Bull Run in Manassas, Virginia, Saturday, July 23, 2011.
