Album: John and Mabel Ringling Museum Exhibit

Michael Minardi was the first living photographer to be commissioned to produce a complete Exhibit of his photography for the museum. This special Exhibit required 2.5 years of photography plus 6 months of computer work. The photographs record Florida's historic buildings, sporting events, tourist attractions, industry and agriculture. Mr. Minardi initially takes a 35 mm slide of a scene and then reproduces the slide by means of a computer that uses laser light sources and computer control programs. The process allows him to manipulate the colors of the photograph, thereby creating whimsical, dynamic or unnatural images. By changing the images color scheme, he alters our understanding of the scene represented. The computer becomes another tool for creative expression. Minardi relates his use of the camera and film to a painter's paintbrush and palette, explaining, "I paint with light."

Album: Vidial© Exhibit

Mr. Minardi became fascinated with the variations of pictures through computer generated distortion. He invented a process he calls Vidial© which combines video and digital technology to create effects on a screen which he then captures with his camera. Minardi defines Vidial© imagery as "electronic imagery that's moving very fast." His quick reflexes play an important role in enabling him to capture the rapidly moving imagery created on his monitor.
